This town is named after its founder Chintamani Rao, a maratha Chieftain.it is located at a distance of about 75 Km away from Bangalore is amidst hills.It is famous for its gold and silver trade and its agarbathi(incense) industry.Another thing Chintamani is famous is "Fried Groundnuts". One of the oldest dargahs in Karnataka, the Murugmulla Dargah of Fakhi Shah Wali about 8 Kms from Chintamani,Kaiwara,and Varadaraja Temple draws thousands of pilgrims
